Women’s health has been thrown to the wayside throughout the years, being inaccurately dubbed a niche space. This prevailing view has resulted in vast underfunding, leaving women with undiagnosed and improperly treated health conditions.
In recent years this misnomer has been debunked and digital women’s health has taken off, chiefly driven by the large potential market size, advancements in health tech, the rise of women in STEM and a conducive regulatory environment.
Despite a more favorable landscape, women’s health startups still face an uphill battle: 80 percent of women’s health startups are founded by women, and women founders receive only two percent of funding. Moreover, 95 percent of U.S. investors are men, who disproportionately see women’s health as niche.
MATTER startups Embr Labs, Partum Health and Univfy shared how their solutions are making waves in women’s health. Each presentation was followed by the startups receiving feedback from a panel of decision makers from three of MATTER’s partners.
